Everyday People | Volume 1
One of the best parts of having been around for a while is that we have a pretty extensive archive of clothes from the past 11 years. Friends and customers often pop into the shop wearing their favourite relics from years gone by, and we get many requests for us to bring back old styles all the time.

The ethos behind 18 Waits has always been to make clothes that are designed well and made from high quality materials so that they last. Our clothes are meant to be lived in - enjoyed, loved and destroyed.

That's where the idea for our Everyday People shoot came from. We asked a group of friends and customers if we could capture them wearing their favourite 18 Waits pieces from their own closets - styled exactly how they wear them. We peppered in the odd piece from current and upcoming collections, but mostly we stayed out of it as we wanted to show how Everyday People wear their 18 Waits out in the wild. Then we let the extremely talented photographer Lane Dorsey work his magic. This is the first of three volumes of the photos from the shoot. "I got these shirts when they were first released and haven’t looked back. The living dead is my favourite shirt of all time and has been a staple for everything from seeing by favourite bands (including the final Grateful Dead show, Fare Thee Well - apropos I think) to looking sharp at cottage parties, to dressed up on the town with a nice blazer. It’s a go-to statement piece that always gets noticed for myself and my son, Kash."

We met Johnnie at the Mont Tremblant airport awaiting a flight back to Toronto. We struck up a conversation who looked “familiar”. Not surprising, turns out Johnnie lives in our neighbourhood and frequents many of our local haunts. We chatted about 18 Waits, among other things, and two weeks later Johnnie and his sweet red beard joined us for the shoot. Lookin' good Johnnie - that’s a party shirt if we’ve ever seen one. (Coming out for FW19!).
